Home Office to publish final list of PCC candidates

With only 21 days before the election for Police & Crime Commissioners (PCCs) across England and Wales, the Home Office is set to publish on Friday 26th October the final list of running candidates.

With only 21 days before the election for Police & Crime Commissioners (PCCs) across England and Wales, the Home Office is set to publish on Friday 26 October the final list of running candidates.

PCCs are part of the coalition government’s radical reform to how policing is conducted across the 42 police force areas in England and Wales with the exception of London. Their responsibilities include setting the priorities of their police force area, deciding how much money is allocated to each of the various policing activities (eg anti-social behaviour, counterterrorism, neighbourhood watch, rehabilitation, etc) and they also hold the power to hire and fire chief constables.

In addition to a number of people running as independents, all of the main national political parties have fielded candidates ahead of the crucial public election on Thursday 15 November 2012.

From tomorrow the final list of candidates can be viewed at: http://www.choosemypcc.org.uk/

Registration to vote ends next Wednesday 31 October so if you require information on how to register please go to: http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/
