'Stop and search does more harm than good' vote the audience at a StopWatch debate

On Friday 30th January, StopWatch, in collaboration with the KCL Bar Society and the Dickson School of Law, hosted a debate on the motion "The Power to Stop and Search does more harm than good"

StopWatch was honoured to host some great speakers and a lively audience and thank all that attended for their contributions!

Following heated debate, a packed audience at the KCL Bar Society voted overwhelmingly in favour of the motion.

Speakers for the motion were

- Barrister Courtenay Griffiths QC from 25 Bedford Row

- the activist Stafford Scott, from Tottenham Rights and the Monitoring Group and;

- Baroness Jenny Jones, London Assembly Member for the Green Party.

Speakers against the motion were

- Superintendent Darren Curtis of the Metropolitan Police Stop and Search Unit

- Duwayne Brooks, the Deputy Mayor's Official "Critical Friend" on Stop and Search and;

- Anthony Olanipekun, Safer London Foundation
