The type of personal information we collect

We currently collect and process the following information:

All this information collected will be kept privately by our designated data controllers and not shared with other organisations without your consent.

How we get the personal information and why we have it

Most of the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you for one of the following reasons:

  • To monitor web traffic, in order to report to our Board of Trustees our progress in attracting visitors to our website
  • As part of a request for advice or support for a stop and search, a response to a media story, to subscribe to our of our services, or an application to work with us in some capacity

We may share anonymised information (such as website traffic) with our Board of Trustees.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

  • Your consent. You are able to remove your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting info@stop-watch.org.uk
  • We have a vital interest
  • We have a legitimate interest.

How we store your personal information

For the StopWatch newsletter, the email address that you signed up with is securely stored on Substack’s servers, and is kept there until you choose to unsubscribe. When you unsubscribe, Substack will delete your data off their servers, as compliant with GDPR legislation. The same applies for other subscription services we offer.

For other subscription services, the information will be kept with StopWatch until you choose to unsubscribe, at which time we will delete your data from our records.

For information given to access advice and support, we keep the data for as long as the advice and support is provided, after which, we may retain versions of the data for public interest archiving or historical research purposes. If we decide to do so, then we will inform you.

Website information is stored anonymously in the form of cookies which track your movement around our website. These cookies contribute to our Google Analytics data collection.

If you wish to not be tracked, please adjust your browser settings to ‘Do not track’ or ‘Block cookies’.

Your data protection rights

You are not required to pay any charge for exercising your rights. If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you.
