StopWatch on new COVID-19 policing powers

Statement responds to new legislation

StopWatch have released a statement on the use of new legislation created to handle the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement expresses concerns over police forces' use of expanded powers, such as their proportionality, whether police personnel themselves are practising social distancing, and whether the powers raise data protection concerns.

Visit our COVID-19 webpage for more information, and to access the statement in full, as well as our booklet, 'COVID-19 and the police – What you need to know'.
